With Halloween just days away, and I have blogged about ghosts, I wanted to blog about witches! Many children dress up as them each year, I did many times as a child. I love the pointy hats, the brooms, and the funny stripped socks that some wear for their costumes. When Halloween is long gone, some people think of witches differently though. Some feel that it is associated with evil things or witchcraft. UGH, as this makes me sad. Others might think of the Salem Witch trials that happened. Again, another sad event that happened to these women in our history. However, today witches have become more main stream and seen in a positive light with movies like Harry Potter and TV shows like Sabrina the Teenage Witched or Charmed. When you think of witches, what comes to mind for you? For me, I think of “Wicked” or the “Wizard of Oz!” I think of Glenda the “good witch” and then you have the Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West!!! I love the story of “Wicked” which gives the background of why Elphaba turned “bad” and the relationship that she had growing up with Glenda. If you haven’t seen it, make sure you do as it’s an amazing Broadway play. Other movies that I loved with witches include: Practical Magic, The Craft, and Hocus Pocus. As well as, the TV show Bewitched, I loved that one when I was a small child. What I loved about these movies or TV shows is that witches are seen as “good” things! I have had many people call me a “witch” or a “good witch.” To me, I have always thought of it as a compliment, as I see witches as being “good.” Having abilities is not a bad thing, it is how you use your abilities. Just think of Harry Potter, he chooses to use his abilities to help or assist, whereas, Malfoy uses his abilities in more of a negative way. Again, the good witch versus bad witch. So, I ask you, how do you feel about witches?  Remember it is always how we perceive things! For me, bring on the good witches, Glenda, Hermione Granger, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, as they show the positivity and light. So, if you are one of these “good witches” I commend you for being a beacon of light to others, to show them the way!
